Xavier Moonen   

Xavier Moonen  is a clinical and health psychologist; he has been working at the Koraal Groep (http://www.koraalgroep.nl/)  as an researcher and advisor since 1985. The Koraal Group hosts organisations for the care and treatment of people with intellectual disabilities, youth care, homeless young people, education and vocational training.

Xavier Moonen got his PhD in 2006. He conducted a research project called “Residential treatment, perceptions and experiences of young people admitted to a remedial treatment centre for young people with mild intellectual disabilitiesin which two young people with mild mental retardation actively participated as co-researchers. In the project 8 young people were trained as peer-interviewers. Furthermore young people participated in focus-groups.

At this moment Xavier Moonen participates in several participatory research projects with active involvement of (young) people with mild intellectual disabilities. 

Xavier Moonen is 

-chairman of the National knowledge center for the treatment of young people with mild intellectual disabilities,

-chairman of the Dutch Association of Pedagogy (NVO),

-member of the board of Quality 4 Children Netherlands (Q4C

-member of the board of the Internationale Gesellschaft Heilpägogische Berufs- und Fachverbände (IGHB)

-member of the steering team of Researching Children

-member of many boards in the field of youth care and the care for people with intellectual disabilties
